Detailed Abstract
[Liver Invited Lecture 2]
[LV IL 2] From LDLT to Extreme HPB Surgery
Paolo MUIESAN*
University of Birmingham, UK
Lecture : This aim of this lecture is to identify the links between LDLT and extreme liver surgery. Liver transplanters acquire confidence with vascular anastomoses, from large caval to very small arterial. HPB surgeons performing liver transplants, living donor surgery and splitting livers can benefit by transferring this experience in the HPB setting. This has allowed parenchymal sparing liver resections with the ability of resecting and reconstructing venous drainage involved by tumours. It is possible to expand surgical options for previously unresectable cancers by combining vascular resections and ALPPS. Further examples of transfer of transplant experience in HPB surgery include ante-situm and ex-situ surgery.
